Inspired by my morning walks in the Victorian cemetery across from my house.
This Memento Mori piece came to me as I observed how many religions, races and classes of people are buried in the same plot of land and none of that matters after death and how we humans make religion, race, class and division matter so much when we are alive only for our bodies to end up in the same earth all together. We have so much more in common than we do in differences!
A reminder to myself of the countless deaths I have breathed in and out of, that they are ends as much as they are beginnings. That we are so much closer to the veil than we’ve been led to believe, we wouldn’t work the way we do if we truly understood this. Our time here is so fleeting, there is no time not to love.
We have this one life, one chance in this extraordinary container to make life and love matter and to remember that we are of equal bones.
I am sure the laughing skulls and shaking bones of our ancestors are just waiting for us to figure this out and wake up before we join them in our final slumber.
